Hey Guys!

The PBI Installer is currently being revamped. Here's a sneak preview, please let us know if you like it, if you'd like to change it, etc...

In this version, PBI developers will be able to customize the installer using their own images:

I like it. The Wizard approach is definitely best.

I like it. Definitely a nice, cozy environment for Windows switchers.

Well lets see I can choose licesnes, extra messages to display. I can pick the look / feel of the installer, even customize it with images in spots using bitmaps. Choose the language I want to use, use full screen (with my choice of background) or standard installer window. I can setup a defualt install path hard coded, or use enviroment variables to choose where to install to by defualt (*cough* hint, hint! *cough*), but they can still choose where. Also access the registory keys /or use .ini files to tailer it. Setup icons, specifiy a readme file to ask them to read via checkbox->finish and an option to run it after they finish via checkbox. Option to include an uninstall program or not in proper Wintel fashion :-) also the ability to not actually make the file but get me set up with some thing I can edit.

Whats the price of this very popular Brain-Dead-Installer-Maker for Windows Peopler who want to Distro software without using .ZIP ? That you have to pay to get more features and remove the 'made with our creator' message at the end of the installer.

I love it, use it when prepairing a game Mod or a Map for sharing.

I also wish that PBI's would use an env variable for where to install to rather then a hardcoded path. That way /Programs:/usr/Programs:/usr/local/MyPrograms are not important and if I wanted I could install into /usr/home/tom_dick_or_harry/Programs/ and bypass the root password if so was allowed :-P
You could say I care more for _flexibility_ then _pretty looking_.

And not having to deal with a Programs directory in every level of the hier that I expect to have by PC-BSD v5.0 to keep backwords compat with PC-BSD v0.7Betas PBI files would be nice !!!!!!!!

I like the mockups too, Charles, but I find the red too dominant on the first picture - it doesn't make the PC-BSD logo come out very well.

Terry, we are aware of these problems, and Kris said he would take time to address those. In the meantime, as I'm not involved in actual development, I try improving the installer my way :)

Gerard: Ok, we are open to other mockups if some people have other ideas, then we can launch a poll to select which one our community prefers
