PBI and packages/ports do they mix well?

Hi,
I like the pbi system. I can download all the apps I need, and quickly have a system up and going, and also show other people how easy it is.

What I don't understand though is how friendly are they with the other forms of freebsd install (packages/ ports). I do not need bleeding edge changes to my apps, I just need them to work. If there is something that isn't done yet, and I know that there has been a major upgrade on pbidir, so lots will be back soonish, can I just install through another way. Say if I install Scribus through packages should I completely remove before doing as a pbi when it is available, or should they just play fair.

Ports and Packages are fully integrated

PBI are only integrated with PBC (PBi Creator)


If you ever install a program via Port/Pkg that you have a PBI installed of, remove the PBI first just to be safe.


The major problem is when you encounter a situation where a port/pkg you want needs a program pre-installed which is by PBI but not via port/pkg, in which case it will try to install it via port/pkg which can f*** stuff up every now and then.
