Official Hardware Compatibility Thread - Known to work
Hello All,
I wanted to see if we can get an "Official Hardware Compatibility Thread" going. This will serve as a base to provide users valuable information on hardware that works out of the box. As a casual user, it has been very difficult to get my system working correctly. Since some of my hardware is compatible, and some not, it has been a very discouraging process.
Let's think of this as "If someone wants to build a PC running PC-BSD" so to be able to access a "Known to work" list.. I know that many in this community know what they are doing as far as finding drivers, packages etc, but there are some that do not necessarily have the time or knowledge to spend hours trying to get a part to work. My own experience is that my dual monitor XFX 7300LE does not work out of the box. I needed to learn about finding and xorg file that worked, then stop working and then worked again, finally once I upgraded to 1.5, does not work again..
Please post parts that work from the get go. I know that some systems are older so lets focus on more current parts.. Please do not post parts that do not work.
Example:
Motherboard - Intel DG965SS Works, NIC Works
Thanks!

Re: Official Hardware Compatibility Thread - Known to work
Personally I'd rather see a hardware incompatiblity thread, that lists all known paper weights :-).
On which you could probably include most webcams in the world and WinModems lool.

It's true !
Owning an Apple Mac' forces you to incorrectly capitalise letters, ignore punctuation and make grammatical errors.
The post above confirms this theory ;-)
oh, and how does one go about 'finging' you around the BSD forums?

Re: Official Hardware Compatibility Thread - Known to work
There already is a list of supported hardware:
http://www.freebsd.org/platforms/index.html
And for more detailed lists there are the device driver manpages (section 4)

The trouble with that, is that some manufacturers (especially Dell) change the chipset they're using, but don't change the model number.

And actually, although I've heard my PCMCIA cards model at the revision# I have, has problems with FreeBSD, it's never had one here hehe.
