Default pcbsd, winxp and linux - linux won't boot with bootloader
hi,

just installed pcbsd fot the first.
i did a fresh install on my notebook. first winxp, then linux with grub as bootmanager and then pcbsd.
pcbsd bootloader shows three entries. dos, linux and pcbsd.
while i can boot windows without problems, it stucks with linux. making some beeps.
any hints how to fix this?
or can i reinstall linux and grub will recognize pcbsd? and do i have to write any boot records from pcbsd from mbr (i think they will be there) to somewhere else?

*if* your Linux system is stable and not prone to being replaced with a distro of the month...

Reinstall GRUB and set it to boot PC-BSD, if you want I'll post one of my configurations for grub.

If your linux system is prone to replacement by other distro, I would suggest installing GAG into the MBR (cd and floppy images avail) and installing GRUB into the Linux Root / Partition whenever setting up a GNU/Linux distro.

LOL

(I'm just thinking out loud, not making any assumptions of the author of this thread)

What's with that obsession of testing and switching linux distributions every couple of weeks? You take two steps forward and one step back on the learning curve each time! (and its not like this kind of users get very savvy at the command line). I infer from some opinions they're just plain praying the next try all their hardware/favorite software magically works out of the box (boosted by binary blobs half the time) (if that's true, that's IMHO pretty lame).

One reason I use GAG is my test machine tripple boots Windows XP for gaming, any GNU/Linux distro I test for hardware support, and a FreeBSD / PC-BSD beta when I have time to download xD, all off one hard drive.

So some thing like GAG in the MBR is the only stable booting solution for me without playing with NT's loader hehe.

The reason I brought it up through is as you said, some people distro-hop every few hours.
