Default Hardware Check!
I've got a great idea for the PC-BSD team! Why not set up a hardware db which people can either rate for bsd compatibility or offer tuts as to how to get it to work!

Anyway. I have a HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop with a Broadcom chipset (bcm43xx) and have been easily able to activate it on many Linux distros.

I think it was on PC-BSD 1.2-1.3 I last tried ndisgen but it had some kernel problems and I remember a tutorial instructing someone with the same problem to download a pbi with all of the kernel source but this wasnt possible and bleh I just gave up and went back to Linux. I wonder if anyone has any idea whether I would have any luck in the new edition of PC-BSD or has a tutorial that could help me.

Default Re: Hardware Check!
You should be in luck now with 1.4 (or 1.4.1). I have the Compaq version of that laptop (R4000) and everything works.

Just about everything is ready from the first bootup. Keep in mind the video won't be that great for hardware acceleration until ATI releases the open video drivers. As far as your broadcom wifi, use ndisgen to compile the wifi drivers from the Windows inf and sys files.

FYI... If you start getting hard lockups it's probably due to the powerd command in the /etc/rc.conf. For whatever reason, it seems that the application locks up with newer AMD Sempron/Athlon 64 cpus.

Let me know if you need some help,
Rob
