Default Asus eee pc support?
Hi guys,

Does anyone know how well freebsd/pc-bsd will work on the Asus eee-pc? I'd like to buy one, but the default Xandros desktop doesn't look too appealing to me (I'd like to use Free(PC)BSD + XFCE instead...)

regards,

d.

I'm not certain of the functionality on that particular model, but be aware that the PCBSD relies a lot on kde for its additional functionality (such as the automount, and the administrative control center options.)

Their site warns that specifications might vary, so this is no standardized model. They offer different storage capabilities (solid state), you'll better grab the 8gb model (since 4gb will be taken by pcbsd, and the drive is SOLDERED to the board).

On wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASUS_Eee_PC#Specifications they state the wireless chip is atheros (supported) and it has intel integrated graphics (Intel 910GML, supported but 3d is not completely).

As for the camera and power management, I'm not certain.

Seems that they're extending the range... there still some ho-haa over the miniPCI slot next the RAM, which seem to be the 'specification variant'...

They've issued a patch on the limiting of memory too... so it's something of a watching brief.
