Default Gettin a bit tired of pc-bsd (noob problems again)
HI,

I solved my problem with mounting hard drives, if you can call it "solving". Accidently drives stoped refusing to mount whet I checked "read only". Before that system posted "unecpected error uccured". How on earth must I have known what error is that? Sorry, but that is not user-friendly at all.

Another problem arised. Root access. My system Hd's were formatted during install. I am unable to log in as root, unable to access /usr/ under #su, unable to change /kdm/kdmrc. Everywhere permission denied. I need to write access my HD's. What do I do? Please help.

Thanks beforehands.

::sigh:: that system is much too complicated compared to MacOSX or even WinXP. And still my sound and network do not work...

Well, partly solved.

- ksu konqueror. But hey, is this system supposed to be friendly or what? To copy files you have to open 2 ksu konqueror and then copy. And why in ksu progress bar does not work?

:: sigh ::

I wish it could be like popular OSs. Just plug in and ready to go.

P.S. Some wish-advice to developers (only if you try to build a user-friendly system, otherwise skip): Please guys try not to think as a geek that tries to do things right and proper, protect everything from everyone, instead try to think as a user that asks himself: Why do these developer guys make me spend so much time adjusting this, and this, then type this after this in console mode...::sigh:: What for on earth does a home-user need a konsole?

Keep in mind that BSD is UNIX. It is perfectly logical in its own way, but it still comes from a time when everything was done via a terminal because systems did not have the sexy graphics and GUIs that we have now.

BSD developers have had 20+ years (depending on flavor...UNIX goes back to the '60's) of getting things done in the console, and there really is no reason to change that.

Is it really easier to spend a year or more to put a GUI on something that is easily accomplished by typing a short sentence in a terminal? Probably not. There is a point where chasing ease of use starts to provide diminishing returns.

I would rather developers concentrate on hardware, application, and GUI improvements than working on completely eliminating the need for console.

Please do not lazy to learn.

PC-BSD is the easiet OS of UNIX like OS to use.

Actually FreeBSD/PC-BSD is UNIX.
