are ports-packages more current than pbi-binaries yet?

i read in the knowledge that if you look after the newest version of software xy, you have to look in the ports at first because they are more up-to-date than pbi-binaries...the article is about 2 years old
has anything changed around that "problem"
and what about the old fact that ports dont recognize pbi-installed software?
was that problem finally solved, wasnt it?

Logicaly thinking - yes, ports are always "newer" than PBIs. Why? Read through the PBI creation process manuals and the FAQs.

Most current to most not current software on FreeBSD:


Developer Source Code -> FreeBSD Port -> FreeBSD Package -> PC-BSD PushButtonInstaller


Some times a PBI is as current as a Package but they are not maintained as actively.
