Default [Solved] Sound card problems
I have an Asus P4S8X motherboard I have installed PC-BSD on (1.3.x). I cannot get the soundcard to work. I have tried the on-board C-Media, an old SB card, and a SoundBlaster Live! card. Here are some outputs that might be useful.

# dmesg | grep audio
pci0: <multimedia, audio> at device 9.0 (no driver attached)

# cat /dev/sndstat
FreeBSD Audio Driver (newpcm: 64bit 2007062202/i386)

# kldstat

# kldload snd_emu10kx.ko
kldload: can't load snd_emu10kx.ko: File exists

Is this a motherboard issue? I shut just about everything off in the BIOS to try and limit the chance of a conflict, but no luck.

I'm not sure why all those sound drivers are loading, some of them conflict.
You should only have sound.ko and one snd_*.ko driver loaded.
What c-media chipset does your onboard use?

I think the on-board audio is CMedia 9739A (does that help?)

I thought I set it up so that it would check the soundcard and pick the best choice. Apparently, it is not doing that correctly. I will try your suggestion and see if it works better.

Thanks.

Default Disabling other sound files
I tried to disable the other .ko files (I thought it was because I was using sound_detect.sh), but I think it is happening before that. There is a bunch of stuff that flashes on the screen before the boot options show up (after the mbr, but before the PC-BSD options). It looked like those might be related to the sound. It is difficult to tell as they are only there for a second before they are gone.

Default Problem seems to be fixed
I rebooted and am getting sound now. I guess that fixed it. Thanks for the suggestion.
