Default Unable to access samba shares
Hi All,

In past versions of PC-BSD, I have had no problem accessing samba shares on my home server. With 1.3 however, I've had no luck at all. Network Folders in Konqueror is unable to discover any samba shares at all. Turning off the firewall (which I have never touched) allows it to find a workgroup called "Workgroup" and in that is only PC-BSD. ie it now sees itself, but nothing else.

Can anybody help me trouble-shoot this?

Ron

Install smb4k from ports.

Quote:
Port: smb4k-0.8.0
Path: /usr/ports/net/smb4k
Info: KDE 3.x SMB Network browser and SMB shares mounting center

what i did is set a static ip for my lan.

CONTROL CENTER PC1
Manual DHCP
ip:192.168.0.1
subnet: 255.255.255.0
check active when computer starts
brodcast: i leave it blank
gateway: gateways ip
routing: same as gateways IP
DNS:IP of my dns servers or you could try 208.67.220.220 (Open DNS)

CLICK APPLY & OK

CONTROL CENTER PC2

Manual DHCP
ip:192.168.0.2
subnet: 255.255.255.0
check active when computer starts
brodcast: i leave it blank
gateway: gateways ip
routing: same as gateways IP
DNS:IP of my dns servers or you could try 208.67.220.220 (Open DNS)

CLICK APPLY & OK

open your konqueror then type SMB:/ip address
ex. smb:/192.168.0.1

note: make sure that the folder that you are accessing enables sharing.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion.

However, each computer on my network already have static IP addresses, the server runs Clark Connect and my windows pc's can all access the shared folder without problem.

The only thing that has changed is PC-BSD. When I get home I will check the network settings though. Maybe I've done something silly there when I set the IP address.

Back again. Checked out my network settings and found no errors.

Then tried your your suggestion to "open your konqueror then type SMB:/ip address ex. smb:/192.168.0.1" and it works! Thanks for that but I'm still left wondering why konqueror or smb4k don't see the share.
