Default Default to ACPI in loader.conf?
Hi,
I just installed the latest PCBSD but every time it boots it defaults to option 1 (no ACPI). How do I make it default to option 2 instead?

Thanks!

Always check the FAQ, I never do but for you I made an exception

I searched the forum but forgot to look at the FAQ.

It looks like the secondary way of doing it in the FAQ is missing the "echo" command.

Neither one of the options worked. My boot menu still defaults to option 1 (ACPI disabled) and the kernel panics as soon as it tries to boot. Any other ideas?

I am a dork. Now that I've read your post again, you want to ENABLE acpi at boot, I thought you wanted the opposite.

Edit /boot/loader.conf and enter acpi_load="YES"

The initial boot menu is determined at boot time. If ACPI is unrecognisable (such as my old compaq desktop), the system will put "ACPI disabled" as first option and vice versa.

Thanks, ...but I figured as much and had set acpi_load="YES" right away. I an see that acpi.ko loads before the boot menu comes up but it still defaults to ACPI disabled. I find this really annoying. There's got to be a way to reconfigure the boot menu - no?

When I had the compaq pc with the ACPI problem, no matter what I selected on the boot menu, if acpi_load="YES" existed I was ok.

The boot menu is formed based on ACPI detection, so if ACPI fails some tests then the first command is "Boot with ACPI disabled". No you can't change this behavior unless you hack enough in the code, which is meaningless even if you had the knowledge.
