Default 1.3.0.1 pbi update failed
I tried to update my heavily customized 1.2 PC-BSD using the 1.3.0.1 PBI, but it didn't work and I'm not sure where or why. I wasn't paying any attention, as it was busily unpacking and installing stuff. Then the screen went blank and my computer started beeping. I rebooted and, while the menus looked updated and the 'PC-BSD System Manager' says I have 1.3.0.1 installed, uname -a disagrees:

Code:
$ uname -a
FreeBSD MalteseFalcon 6.1-RELEASE-p2 FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE-p2 #1: Thu Jul  6 11:31:02 PDT 2006     root@PCBSD.localhost:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/PCBSDv1.2  i386
How can I find out more about what happened and can I ever get to 1.3.2?

Do you remember the beeps? It was like 1 long then 3 short or something continuous? Please be accurate, I am not a beep wizzard

It could be an overheating issue, has this happened before?

I think it was just a continuous beep beep. And no, no overheating here; it was definitely caused by the 1.3.0.1 update.

So I just re-installed the upgrade PBI. Of course, it wasn't that simple, so I wrote about my experience in my blog:

http://freebsd.amazingdev.com/blog/archives/000847.html

A couple of things that I consider bugs in the upgrade PBI:

1] It reboots the computer with nary a warning. After installing, you just get a dialog box saying "Rebooting..." and off it goes. At the very least, there should be an Okay button so I can save my work first:-(

2] It shouldn't overwrite xorg.conf. Or at least, if it must (it actually deleted mine and created a link to XF86Config), save a backup copy.

And I don't think it edited my rc.conf file, which, if it wants to run hal, it had better.
