If you plan on getting FreeBSD via FTP, please check the listing of mirror sites.

The ISC Mirror above was the first mirror

ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ISO-IMAGES-i386/6.2

but very few mirrors have it until now.

I guess I'll need QEMU.

Note to self, burn another 2 disk set when 7.0-Release hits.

The freebsd-update( 8 ) utility, a tool for managing binary updates to the FreeBSD base system, has been added.
I wonder what "binary update" means.

freebsd-update -- fetch and install binary updates to FreeBSD

Gotta love online man pages for before you upgrade :-)

I remember reading some thing awhile back that they were working on a way to do upgrades via precompiled binaries rather then the make buildkernel / install kernel / buildworld bit.

Terry I read the manpage but it didn't "click" until I saw the words "make buildkernel" in your post. So this is a "portsnap-like" feature for system upgrades... interesting.

Default FreeBSD 6.2
I've been using the RC2 for AMD64 version since about New Years. Nice. Seeding the release torrent now.

I got some cd's over at the Wal-Mart on the other side of the highway. I just checked my MD5 sums, my .iso cd#1 is no good!

The .iso cd#2 is O.K. though, the MD5 there matched. I guess I am going to have to download #1 again tonight. Maybe that is why I had a problem before?...hmmm....I wonder?

Oh well, cd #1 is the smaller one anyhow, I'm just glad I caught it.
