Nvidia GeForce FX5200
i have just installed pcbsd 1.3rc1,i have an nvidia geforce fx5200 and a lgl1915s monitor, the monitor only has a refresh rate of 60hz.
with the nv drivers i have the correct resolution and refresh rate,i have tried both the legacy and current nvidia drivers, but both change the refresh rate to 75hz with no choice to change it,the nv drivers are totally unusable with this card, the mouse keeps freezing and moving windows leaves multiple copies of them across the screen, there is nothing to edit in xorg-conf,it has the correct refresh rates.
i used to use pcbsd, but had to give up when the blevin drivers were no longer compatible, but thought i would try it again.
is there anything i can do to force it to use a refresh rate of 60hz or am i doomed not to be able to use pcbsd again!
thanks andy

Try pressing control+alt+backspace (it will restart X11 and read the xorg configuration file). If it then reports the proper refeash rate I know the problem.

thanks terry, just tried that but still only 75hz,could having 4 xorg-conf/xfree86's be causing a problem,i'm not sure which one is being used?
i've had this problem before on linux,i've had systems with both kde and gnome installed,in kde i could not change the refresh rate, but could in gnome,it would appear to be a kde bug.

You can try to compile the latest nvidia drivers from the ports tree and along with nvidia-xconfig and then run nvidia-xconfig which will set up your /etc/X11/XF86Config file with what nvidia thinks it should be. I have a 5200FX64 at work but have only PC-BSD in the VMPlayer there.

The only one name xorg.conf is the one being used. An XF86Config will take precedent over it I think.

Its been awhile since I read the stuff in /PCBSD but I think if your graphics card is detected it uses the xorg.conf file if it exists. Else it uses the XF86Config file which will be auto-replaced with a prepaired generic vesa based one if the cards not detected.

thanks dracheflieger,i'll just leave one xorg.conf in there,i'll keep the others somewhere just in case,if i have no luck with that i'll try the ports, but i will have to wait till after 12pm for that,as my isp has a "fair user policy" which basically means you can only web browse and email between 4 and 12 pm,which is a pain in the neck!
thanks again andy

i was a little bit hasty there thinking it was fixed!
it had created another xfree86 config using the nv drivers,i tried editing that to nvidia but its back to 75 hz again.
i'll try a few more things, but it looks like i'll be going back to linux again.
it was worth a try i suppose!

rename the XF96Config that nvidia made and it will use the xorg.conf if you stll have it there.
