PowerPC Support? - PC-BSD Forums

Hello all,

Is there ever going to be PowerPC support for PCBSD? I really want to use it on my PowerBook G4 now that my desktop is dead, and even in the future it would be nice to have a user friendly BSD on my PowerBook besides OSX, something that uses X11. Currently no BSD is compiled for PPC besides FreeBSD which is too much of a pain in th a*s for my liking.

i think FreeBSD is in testing phase for PowerPC

maybe in the near future, there will be a PowerPC PCBSD

PC-BSD will come to amd64 before ppc.

amd64 is not yet being worked on. We simply don't have the resources to support other architectures yet, completing and enhancing the current toolset we have is a much higher priority.

@Solarin: Thanks for the post. I also think PowerPC is a little abandoned since Apple moved to Intel processors. AMD64 version of PCBSD would be great. Perhaps PPC processors will be revived with the Cell Processor

@maddog39: i guess you will have to use FreeBSD 7.0 current if you want FreeBSD on your Powerbook G4. it`s not as easy as PCBSD but it`s great once you get it to work like you want.
