No sound on DELL Dimension 2400 - PC-BSD Forums

Hi

I have tried to enable sound on my DELL Dimension 2400 desktop with my recently installed PC-BSD (FreeBSD v6.1).

I tried to follow the recomendations posted on this and other sites but without I had no success.

With some audio SW I can get the CD player working but no sound can be heard. The following is a listing that might be useful in fixing this problem.

After further investigations I found that the sound card in my DELL 2400 desktop is not supported by PC-BSD (aka FreeBSD).

This is indicated in http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/f...ry/017738.html

Your card is a Dell-specific SoundBlaster Live! CT0200. Note:

none3 at pci1:6:0: class=0x040100 card=0x10031102 chip=0x00061102

instead of 00021102

The only known working driver for this card is the non free OSS driver from 4Front.

Also don't get confused with the snd_emu10kx driver from

http://chibis.persons.gfk.ru/audigy/default_en.htm

since this driver does not work as well.

The only solution is to procure a new sound card that works on FreeBSD.

Any suggestions on a low-cost and easy setup sound card.

My Audigy 4 is utter crap under Windows but it's worked pretty nice with PC/Free BSD when using the emu10kx driver and some /boot/loader.conf edits.
