Default [solved] PCBSD unable to mount usb flash device!
Hi,

I just installed the PCBSD...

I have problems to mount my flash drives.

[case 1]
I plug the Sandisk Cruzer Mini.. nothing happens...

console reports this :

kernel: umass0: SanDisk Corporation Cruzer Mini, rev 2.00/1.25, addr 2
kernel: info: [drm] Loading R200 Microcode
kernel: (da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): got CAM status 0x4
kernel: (da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): fatal error, failed to attach to device
kernel: (da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): lost device
kernel: info: [drm] Loading R200 Microcode

[case 2]
I plug the Kingston (datatraveller elite) I got an error on KDE "mount: Insufficient permissions, unknown filesystem, or media not inserted"

again, this is the output of console:

kernel: (da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): Retrying Command (per Sense Data)
kernel: (da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): READ CAPACITY. CDB: 25 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

kernel: (da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): Medium not present
kernel: (da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): Retries Exhausted

kernel: (da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): READ CAPACITY. CDB: 25 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
kernel: (da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): CAM Status: SCSI Status Error
kernel: (da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): SCSI Status: Check Condition

kernel: ext2fs: da0: wrong magic number 0 (expected 0xef53)
kernel: info: [drm] Loading R200 Microcode

Any help/ideas?

Regards

Chris

i get similar things all the time on dmesg.

Code:
(da2:umass-sim1:1:0:1): READ CAPACITY. CDB: 25 20 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
(da2:umass-sim1:1:0:1): CAM Status: SCSI Status Error
(da2:umass-sim1:1:0:1): SCSI Status: Check Condition
(da2:umass-sim1:1:0:1): NOT READY asc:3a,0
(da2:umass-sim1:1:0:1): Medium not present
(da2:umass-sim1:1:0:1): Unretryable error
Opened disk da2 -> 6
(repeated very often)
da2 is an intern card-reader which is connected to the mainboard via usb.

i know, this doesn't help you, but at least you know now that you aren't alone^^

The only problems I have ever had with mounting a USB Stick has been doing it on a computer with bad ACPI support.

Beyond that, I'm not able to help... Sorry

MyFlash card 256MB is plugged into my PC-BSD Thinkpad:

uhub1: 1 port with 0 removable, self powered

da0: 1.000MB/s transfers

Check your computer BIOS settings, maybe there is something awry.

It seems to be around ACPI... it works for the most part on my Sony but the USB is 'dicey' I have no probs with the Mini Cruzer (1Gb), a Bytestor (2Gb) and a pretty tricky piece of kit the Integral (256Kb, but it pretends to be a HD and FD)

There can be a lot of variantons from standards... I took the rosy path to OS Hell by going with Sony, which is as manufacturer standard only as it gets...

USB is 'problematic'

ALPS pointer; just don't get me started

TWO bloody sound cards (on on the Neo Magic and and one in the Yamaha surface mount...

Arbitrary memory limits in BIOS....

PTUI!

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

IT WORKS!!

I think that something wrong were with the format of my drives..
I deleted their partitions (using the disk.app utility of my OSX) then formated as FAT under XP .. the Kingston mounted ok...but not the sandisk.. I will try to kill that flash disk..

Thanx for the support!!
