[solved] PCBSD unable to mount usb flash device!

Hi,

I just installed the PCBSD...

I have problems to mount my flash drives.

[case 1]
I plug the Sandisk Cruzer Mini.. nothing happens...

console reports this :

i get similar things all the time on dmesg.

(da2:umass-sim1:1:0:1): Unretryable error
Opened disk da2 -> 6

(repeated very often)
da2 is an intern card-reader which is connected to the mainboard via usb.


i know, this doesn't help you, but at least you know now that you aren't alone^^

The only problems I have ever had with mounting a USB Stick has been doing it on a computer with bad ACPI support.

Beyond that, I'm not able to help... Sorry

MyFlash card 256MB is plugged into my PC-BSD Thinkpad:

Check your computer BIOS settings, maybe there is something awry.

It seems to be around ACPI... it works for the most part on my Sony but the USB is 'dicey' I have no probs with the Mini Cruzer (1Gb), a Bytestor (2Gb) and a pretty tricky piece of kit the Integral (256Kb, but it pretends to be a HD and FD)

strange.. I had installed Debian/Knoppix/Ubuntu/Zenwalk on the same machine.. had no problems mounting these flash drives..

There can be a lot of variantons from standards... I took the rosy path to OS Hell by going with Sony, which is as manufacturer standard only as it gets...

USB is 'problematic'

TWO bloody sound cards (on on the Neo Magic and and one in the Yamaha surface mount...

Arbitrary memory limits in BIOS....

IT WORKS!!

I think that something wrong were with the format of my drives..
I deleted their partitions (using the disk.app utility of my OSX) then formated as FAT under XP .. the Kingston mounted ok...but not the sandisk.. I will try to kill that flash disk..
