Default 1.1: intel 536ep modem
Hello?

I have an Intel 536EP chipset PCI modem.

Does anyone have made this modem work
in PC-BSD 1.1?

There's a Linux driver for this modem on
Intel's website, and I wonder if that would
work in 1.1.

Thanks.

Could you post the link to this driver so that we can examine it?

If it is the source code, you could try to compile it on your machine.

If it is binary, in the means of a precompiled (linux kernel) module then no luck :?

Hi Apatewna,

Here is the link:
http://www.intel.com/design/modems/support/drivers.htm

Once there, you'll have to click on
the appropriate link of the chipset.

Then, select the operating system.

From the resulting list, you'll find
both precompiled and uncompiled
drivers.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks.

It's a freakin winmodem, the drivers are linux specific, not to mention that it looks like they are a pain to install on linux.

Tough luck on google too. I guess that buying a real hardware modem is the way to go.

In fact they are quite popular. You can get one for under 10 euro.
As far as the customers are concerned it's "a modem that gets them into the net". This Intel chipset brand has proven to be quite stable over the years.

I used to have a winmodem but it got whacked by a thunder (thank God).
Now that I'm on ADSL, I have a spare serial hardware modem that is working under ALL OSes and that counts.

Default intel 536ep on linux
to clear up some confusion. intel 536ep is not a softmodem. uses drivers for linux. they are hard to install except on fedora. i am writing this from mepis 6 where modem was auto-detected. would go back to bsd if this was available.also some other modems work on linux with drivers. lucent is one of them. why do i use dial-up? in pittsburgh comcast high speed is still $50. that is a lot of money for sending email and downloading wallpaper. marku
