You should look at this first:
http://www.freebsd.org/releases/6.1R/hardware.html

Also keep in mind that all the latest hardware has less chances to work right out of the box on *NIX systems.

Default PC-BSD on MacIntel hardware.
PC-BSD runs well on Parallels VM. I have a 20"-iMac with 2.0Ghz Core Duo. It's reasonably fast and does not require a reboot to switch. I use it with Virtue multiple desktops and can swith full screens with just a keypress.

I have a MacBook Pro 2 GHz and I am running PC BSD via Parallels Desktop for Mac. Everything seems fine except for no sound. Sound is a problem on all of the BSD releases that I know of but at least PC BSD recognizes my DVD-Rom drive. :-)

Now, if we could just get the screen resolution up a few notches I would be pimpn.
