Default Kooka
New to PC-BSD & K desktop. Install went fine but Kooka did not install. Would not be so bad, but no SANE frontend or back end seems to be installed either so I cant scan from Oo or Scribus or any other program for that matter. I've tried to install Kooka from a tarball but cant seem to get Kpackage to install it.

Is there any help for a bonehead like me?

It looks like its already installed by default, but I don't use it so I'm not sure if its 100% functional or not. Its in the KDE Programs menu under Graphics

Default kooka
Kooka is installed by default, but it's not working on my computer. Nothing happens when I click - don't even see error messages come up

Default Kooka, Scanners, & PCBSD
Thanks for the ride, but I could not justify hours searching and grouping for solutions with BSD. I've gone back to the darkside... XP. It was fun while it lasted.

Same problem here: kooka isn't installed, only its desktop file, icons, documentation, but no executable anywhere. Apparently scanner support is only available via ports, am I right?

I installed kooka from the ports. However, my scanner has the niash chip
in it and can be a problem (worked in SUSE, PCLOS, and Xandros after much tweeking). Kooka now starts but doesn't recognize the scanner - HP 3300C. Probably backends are screwy - even though they appear to be there.
