Default Last Update broken my system.
This evening system say me there's a new update to download. Ok, download and update!. Download is ok, updating processo is ok, system autoreboot.

But....

after this update, i don't have /usr/local/bin/kdm so i can't start it (i have tried
to find it in another part of disc, without success). So i write my own .xinitrc, put it into my home, launch startx, but kde tell me that can't run slmserver,
because i doesn't find it. So now i can't work with my pcbsd.Seems that
last update, has delete some files.

Now i'm writing in this forum from windows.

Anyone can debug this problem? Bye.

This is (unfortunately) a know problem. big patches are corrupted during download when using the auto update feature.

You must use the pbi version of the patches to update until this gets fixed...

Maybe we should release a SMALL patch that disables auto update and says to use the PBI updates.

After person x 20 that has had this problem.

you are completely right. we really need to adress this asap.

The good news is that bugzilla reported bugs are now starting to be fixed. Just received an e-mail today with a confirmation that one of my bugs has been fixed.

The ask is: Now, with my system that can't go in X with Kde, how can i install new pbi? I can download from shell, but the PBI installer runs from console? If no, i have to download another windowmanager, start X then
rerun update from PBI.

Does updater check for proper MD5 sum on downloaded file? And why not use resumable downloads? Bittorrent technology is even better...

You need only 3 things:

1) ftp or web server where people can download upload

2) Use of wget to download files, with -r option if you need to resume

3) You can also use some tools to check MD5. You can find in the ports or
in system base.
