Default Version 0.76
I think PC-BSD's next release should be an inerin bugfixing release.

Version 0.76 should take care of a growing number of minor bugs that are very annoying and may drive away many newbies. PC-BSD is still a child but with every new release we are being tested by a bigger number of people.

If we want to please these people and increase our comunity as well as the number of testers we should finish the instalation procedure and try to fix the installation bugs. Nothing is worse to our reputation than one more person "trolling" (not to offend the ones not satisfied and not trolling) on forums around the net about PC-BSD not even instaling on sistems that have had FreeBSD installed.

OK, maybe three more functions should be included in a 0.76 release:

-Internet connection setup
-Keyboard region layout settings
-XF86Config file with all the resolutions (see post here: http://www.pcbsd.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=535) and auto detection of correct vertical/horizontal refresh rates
But that would be it! I would like to see full concentration on fixing the installation bugs and unfinished features so we can move on to more important thinks knowing our OS instals on every refrigerator out there.

I hate reading posts from people saying they cant install. You know why, because it is still true...

This is constructive criticism, not trolling.

Cheers!

I'm very confident that these little annoyances will be ironed out, as long as we have beta testers

PC-BSD is our little baby, and it's with great pleasure that we see him growing and learning how to walk

I Agree.
But i also think these issues are extremely important right now. We just have to iron the issues out ASAP! These little buggers drive people away from us so i think this should have top priority!

Everyone which was able to install .5, .6, .7 or FreeBSD on their machines previously should be able to install .75.
We should take the matter as a top priority until all the issues are solved.

Cheers!

I don't really know whether this is a system wide problem or just a 'my' problem but to me there are certain functions that are absolute musts, the most glaring of these is the ability to use any cd or dvd drives attached to the computer. I had no luck, apart from the suggestion to recompile the kernel, with release .7 and the same appears to be present with .7.5.

I have no problems with internet connection (using broadband) and other than my cd/dvd problems things are looking good, however without functioning cd/dvd the system is still not suitable for my desktop use.

It is looking very slick though and I will be sorry to have to wait for the next release but perhaps someone will point out my error. I figure that since the install can use the dvd drive as a cdrom then so should the installed system.

Great work Kris

I need to revise the above I have just tried another cd which works perfectly well so there may be no problems at all. I will install K3B and try the burning cycle. Sorry for the confusion - should take the old adage - More Haste Less Speed - into account
