Default PC BSD 9.1 End Of Life?
Hi everyone,
When is the end of life for PC BSD 9.1? Ie; how much longer will it officially be supported and continue to receive updates etc - security updates in particular.

I am looking for a 32 bit suitable replacement for Windows XP on old machines. Commonly these will be around 3.0Ghz P4's with 1-2Gb Ram and 80+Gb HDD's. Do you think PC BSD will be suitable or should i look at some of the Linux distro's?

Can you run Firefox (including flash), Libre/Open Office and VLC on PC BSD?

What front end does PC BSD use? Is it Gnome, or KDE or something similar?

Thanks for your help.

Liam

I don't recommend PC-BSD for old low end machine, especially because support for 9.x series does not continue for long. Better try out some lightweight linux distro.

PC-BSD offers quite many desktop environments, as far as I know KDE and LXDE are officially fully supported, and many others work too.

9.1 has already reached end of life and is no longer receiving regular updates from the PC-BSD team. for more information please see last weeks blog post.
