Default New version of the Microsoft Fonts + updated fonts.conf!
I have just released a new version of the Microsoft Fonts!

This PBI doesn't contain the fonts themselves but downloads them, installs them and configures your computer for you

Also! I have added new rules to the fonts.conf file (save it in your home directory as .fonts.conf, logout and relogin to KDE)

Combining the Microsoft fonts and this file you can have fonts to look just like on Windows in Konqueror. The Firefox and Opera PBIs are more problematic. We need to re-create them, and Opera requires a newer version of the Linux Compat. Currently it is not possible to have nice fonts in Opera or Firefox.

Please test this combination and report any misconfiguration or problem

Hmmm, now where have I seen this before? Trying to remember :P

Thanks for that Charles, I haven't tested it yet as I need to re-install PC-BSD I am confused about the Firefox part, if you do it manually, fonts look equaly good in FF and GTK but not in Opera.

No, what happens currently is that fonts are bad in both Opera and Firefox because:

- In Opera fonts are all aliased
- In Firefox fonts are all anti-aliased

If you install the Gtk-Qt-Engine and then from control center if you set the option "Use my KDE fonts in non-KDE applications" to ON, for some reason the good looking Windows fonts also get applied to Firefox AND Thunderbird. Please try that out. I understand what you are saying and I believe you but I think this is a way around it...

Is this in the Appearance > Fonts section? I don't have this option...

No, it is under the GTK hive, node which is under the Appearance section. It will only appear after you install the gtk-qt-engine. I am downloading RC2 now and I will post a few screenies of the control center and thunderbird/firefox.

pkd_add -r gtk-qt-engine

Ok, I went to "GTK Styles and Fonts", and I selected the following options:

- Use my KDE style in GTK applications
- Use my KDE fonts in GTK applications

But Firefox still has antialiased fonts :?

Ok, I verified what you said, you are right. I am really sorry. Now this is strange and I don't understand why the fonts are still anti-aliased. I have done it before. My appologies Charles. I am dissapointed my self. I will have to be honest, I am pretty sure I managed to do it on a particular Linux distribution. I had to turn on the byte-code interepreter or whatever it is by hand by modifying a file and re-compiling free type. Still prefer the BSD way and would never go back to Linux.
