Default boot from cd stops at "starting the btx loader"
boot from cd stops at "starting the btx loader".
tried changing hd in bios to manual and lba, but it still won't boot.
mb is Gigabyte GA-8I915P Duo.
hd is 20 gb.

Just "try" selecting the BSD bootloaders NO ACPI option if you make it that far (I think you are not getting that far though right?). Also try disabling any integrated SCSI interfaces on the motherboard in BIOS if you have them and are not using them.

I'm experiencing the exact same problem. I can't get to any 'selection' phase of the boot loader, nor do I have any SCSI controllers to disable. Using PC-BSD 1.1a downloaded today (2006-07-02).

and i also today installed 1.11 and it continuously re-boots, any suggestions, i have presently a heavy xandros os on it so i am sure pcbsd will work, ot no?

Try new 1.2b release instead.

thanks antik for the link, burnt a disc and the same thing a looping re-boot, i really don't understand, is there a way to install from disc via cmd prompt or something, any suggestions before i move on. from what images i've seen on your site i would sure like to try it out, but if not my loss, keep up the good work

In Windows, continuous reboot is a sign of a virus. I forgot the name. Couldn't it have been ported?

No, I think this is some hardware incompatibility problem. If it boot up with standard FreeBSD installCD then we know that this is PC-BSD specfic problem.
