Default Using Ports on PC-BSD 9.1 RC
Hello, I had PC-BSD 9.0 and some time ago when I tried to update programs using ports it crashed, seems that pbi and ports has differents version of programs.
Now I installed today the 9.1 rc version and I could see that while instalation it gives you the option of choosing what "desktop" you want to use. Let me tell you that you made an exellent work on that.
My question is, I choosed KDE, can I update using ports?. Because I can see that there is a new version of KDE and I wonder if this going to crash again. Thanks.

You are welcome to update via ports, however if you do so it is easy to
break your desktop unless you really know what you are doing.

Otherwise if you wait until 9.1-RC2 hits, it'll automatically update the
various ports for you.

You can use ports on any PC-BSD version, but before use this I suggest to read more about the ports management. A good start in this way is to read Definitive Guide to PC-BSD-Dru Lavigne or FreeBSD handbook.
