Default Wireless networking help for noob
Hi everyone.

I am entirely new to linux/pcbsd etc. My entire computing experience to date has been with Windows in various incarnations. After getting increasingly tired of the instability of my Windows PC's I have decided to enter into the murky world of freeBSD :~]

I have successfully installed pcBSD onto my 'test' computer (an old windows 95 system someone kindly dontated me to cut my teeth on).

So far I have managed to get my internet, network and network printing setup.

However now I am completely stuck and need help with the following.

I want to access my network through a wireless USB dongle instead of through the LAN card as I do now.

The dongles driver CD only has a windows install package on it.

Can I install this dongle on my pcbsd machine?
If yes how do I go about it?

The dongle is a DYNAMOD WL GI 700S if this helps.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm curious about USB wireless also? How does it compare to other wirless cards (PCI, PCMCIA) in terms of driver compatibility?

OK. I'll take it from the lack of response I can't use this dongle with PCBSD.

Let's try another question.

If I am to buy a wireless LAN card for this PC which brand or model would give me the least problems as regards installation under PCBSD?

Atheros models are highly recommended, type 'man if_ath' in a konsole to see which specific models.
