Default Install Failure [SOLVED]
Hi,

I downloaded the 9.0 32-bit DVD, and tried to install on this system --
Gateway GT5228 (AMD 64x2) with 2G ram, 250G drive, and Acer P205H LCD monitor (attached to the system box via standard blue VGA plug).

From the initial boot screen, the default boot option fails. It gives me a blue box that migrates around the screen with the error message "Input Not Supported".

My guess is that this is an XORG failure with my monitor, so I tried "X with VESA" as my boot option. It succeeds.

Proceeding with VESA, I selected KDE from the GUI choice menu. KDE looks fine. When I selected the installer, the DVD whirled, then nothing happened. It appears the process died.

I rebooted, and also proceeding with VESA, this time I tried LXDE from the GUI choice menu. Again the initial interface looks fine. When I double-click on the "Install PC-BSD" icon, I get the error message--
Failed to Change to Directory " (No such file or directory).

Any suggestions or advice?

Oops, wanted to add one other thing. I see only WEP encryption options on the Network Administration Panel, but I use WPA or WPA2. How does PC-BSD support WPA/WPA2?

Thank you.

Ok, I tried a different monitor. This time with XORG I got a better message than the floating blue box that says "Input Not Supported." This time the error message is "Cannot Display This Video Mode."

Perhaps the culprit is my video circuitry. It is the default for the machine, listed in the Gateway's specs as: "Integrated NVIDIA® GeForce® 6100 graphics, Up to 128 MB of shared video memory".

With VESA, even with the different monitor, when I try to install the product, I still get the same results as listed in the prior message.

It appears that my machine is not compatible with PC-BSD, so I'm afraid I'll have to move on to another product. Thank you anyway. It certainly looks like a fine product, I wish I could run it.

Best wishes to all.

Sorry to hear this didn't work! Would you mind testing the upcoming 9.1 snapshot though? Its available on http://blog.pcbsd.org.

The snapshot includes the binary nvidia driver on the installation, and may work better on this hardware.

Default New Build Works Great
Hi,

Just wanted to check back in and report that the newer build works on my machine.

The boot-time messages scrolled showing that PC-BSD correctly identified my NVIDIA card and booted into Xorg without any problems.

I'm really glad I stuck with it. The installer looks very professional and I can't wait to start learning BSD. Thanks!
