Default Unknown Device wlan0
Hi,
My name is Steve.
I'm new to all things BSD. I used Fedora back when Fedora Core 6 was out. I haven't really done anything Linux for a while so I'm a bit rusty.

I did do some searching and didn't find anything exactly like my problem; or close to it for that matter.

Long story short I am revamping a computer for a friend of mine(after a good 'ol BSOD) and decided to use PC-BSD, mainly because of its "pc" like environment. I thought it would be good for a new user to introduce them to the world of GNU.

Down to the problem. I installed PC-BSD 8.2 on an old Dell Inspiron B130. The install went smoothly. Now for whatever reason it doesn't even recognize the WiFi card. Obviously I can't find any networks (e.g. the one I'm using now). I can provide additional information if anyone needs it. I'm just stumped on where to start to figure this out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think this card is covered by the bwn driver. I'm not sure if that support was in 8.2, and if it was, you need to manually load the driver using the instructions in section 7.7.7 of the Handbook: ftp://ftp.pcbsd.org/pub/handbook/9.0...434_1715906691.

Note that this is already done for you in 9.0 and later snapshots so it may be worth while installing one of those, or testing from a 9.0 live DVD first to see if the card works.
