Default [SOLVED] Google Chrome
So, Chromium is cool and all, but it is not compatible with some sites like the Google Market and TurboTax for instance.

Is there some way to install the official Google Chrome browser?

Not that I know of.

Seems kinda weird that Google's browser wouldn't work with its sites. What happens when you visit Google Market?

Well, most of the plugins, in fact all the plugins, that normally come with Chrome are not installed in the Chromium browser. So I get errors that my browser isn't supported and stuff like this:

"Sorry, your browser's configuration does not support WebGL."

Flash is the only plugin my browser has. Lots of extensions and addons won't work because they need something currently missing.

WebGL works with Chromium if your 3D drivers are good enough. What video card do you have?

Hmmm, well I don't know if the chromium PBI has WebGL enabled, but I've certainly had it working in Chromium on Linux.

Try starting chromium with the --enable-webgl option.

Well, that didn't work:

"Hmm. While your browser seems to support WebGL, it is disabled or unavailable. If possible, please ensure that you are running the latest drivers for your video card."

When I open chrome://plugins, the only plugin listed is Flash. In Chrome on Windows there's a long list of plugins shown. I was assuming that Chromium just doesn't come with anything because it's a development testing browser.

I wonder if my video card driver has been blacklisted in the browser somewhere.

I opened chrome://flags and made sure WebGL and GPU acceleration are enabled, but it still doesn't work. It has to be blacklisting my driver.

Installing Google Chrome, even if it were possible, would not necessarily make all those plugins show up. Many plugins are windows only, and Chrome also lists plugins installed from other browsers... For example, it lists a Microsoft Office plugin on my Windows machine, but clearly that's not going to work on Google Chrome on Linux, FreeBSD, or PCBSD.

As for WebGL... If your driver is blacklisted, you can try: chrome --enable-webgl --ignore-gpu-blacklist.

But now, back to the original question that was asked of you by Cobalt. What problems do you have with Google Market in Chromium?

That switch doesn't work either.

Right now, that's the main problem: WebGL

Also, in Linux there were a lot more plugins like NaCl, TeaTimer, MediaPlayer, Java and several more; I don't have a Linux install to look at it anymore.

I've also tried installing apps and getting an error that my browser isn't supported, and websites saying my browser isn't supported. Since I did not run into this problem with Ubuntu, I'm assuming it's Chromium, but not being an expert at this sort of thing, I'm not sure what I'm looking at half the time.

Let me test in Firefox real quick and see what happens: Yup, it works in FireFox.

Well, this is a fun mental puzzle, but it's Monday and I have to go to work.

Thanks for all the help.
