Post Can't Customize Desktop Theme
Because english isn't my native language, forgive me if there is some error in my word.
I am running PC-BSD 9.0 on my computer with Intel i3 processor and Intel Graphic Accelerated Card in virtual box under Microsoft Windows XP host operating system.
When I am installing PC-BSD 9.0, I choose both KDE and GNOME as my default Desktop Environment. I have no problem when I am using KDE, but when I am using GNOME I have one problem.

In GNOME, I can choose my desktop favorite theme, but I can't customize it as I like. When I change the active window color with green color, it still appear in blue color as default.
I'm sorry, I didn't know if the bug is from FreeBSD or PC-BSD, but I am very sure the bug didn't come from GNOME itself.

Thanks,
RyanBram

It looks like i have the same problem with XFCE but i found out that pcbsd starts a new desktop in front of mine (or mysteriously charges new conf) - i'm installing gnome2 right now. I'll give you an answer as soon as it is installed.

If you are able to test one of the latest snapshots or an upcoming beta, please let us know if this is still an issue.

Default Cannot change desktop theme
Hey Dru,

I am running PC-BSD 9.1-RELEASE with GNOME2 and have the same problem. I cannot change input box color, window color, or selected item color.
I like a darker theme so I need to lighten the text color and darken the above mentioned.
If I log in as root everything works as it should. This problem is only in the user accounts.
Someone else had the exact same problem: http://forums.pcbsd.org/archive/index.php/t-16367.html Not solved.
PS I am still a relative noob to BSD.
Thanks for your time.

I've noticed that theme changes to controls and selected item color in my Gnome2 take effect only after rebooting. Should that really be necessary? I thought they happened on the fly.

Come to think of it, a lot of changes don't take place until after a reboot. I took a desktop screenshot last night, saved it to my desktop, and when I looked it was not there. After a reboot there it was... on my desktop.

Sorry to go a little off topic, but I wonder if there may be some relation there.

It should be enough to exit the desktop to the login (user selection) screen and then re-enter your desktop of choice. A reboot *should not* be necessary. I believe there is also a way to restart X windows (all desktops are layered atop this) without a reboot but I do not know the method off the top of my head. Perhaps the next person knows?

Default [Solution]
In /user/home/(username)/
Edit .gtkrc-2.0
If you are not used to using gnome "ctrl H" to show hidden files.
Comment out the line: include "/usr/local/share/themes/QtCurve/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"
Log out/Log back in.
