When you add XDM in (either via ports or packages) doesn't it remove KDM automatically? When I went from XDM to KDM (on a regular FreeBSD 5.2.1 box a while ago), it removed XDM automatically.

This question is sort of covered in the main (http://www.pcbsd.org) page's faq. You want to edit /etc/ttys. Look for ttyv8.

(The faq question actually just gets you booting into text mode)

Why you want ugly xdm login? For terminal server?

Actually I am trying to learn how to customize XDM for my own curiositys sake. I am running testing an old window manager called UDE that I like and may want to start redevelopment on it myself.

BTW: I figured out about editing the ttys file, but thanks for the response.

cheers
