The Openoffice PBI works fine with 9.x here. What doesn't work for you exactly?
Openoffice and Libreoffice don't do localizations very well, in that each language has to be compiled and built separately, basically swamping the build servers for a week or more with every new version. Because of this, we are only building the English version of LibreOffice at this time. We are building all of the localizations for OpenOffice because new versions are not released as frequently for it, allowing the build servers to only get bogged down occasionally, rather than with the frequent LibreOffice updates.

Simply OpenOffice does nothing when I start it or want to open a document with it. Tried with BSD9RC1.

If I start the binaries from terminal or directly form /home/user/bin, it works. So the shortcut on the desktop and in the kickoff menu might set wrong, does it? Bug?

Ok, now if I want to open a document with OpenOffice (Open with...) I get this error message:

KDEinit kann "usr/pbi/openoffice-de-i386/.sbin/soffice" nicht starten. (KDEinit cannot start...)

Default LibreOffice and OpenOffice
Possible, what window-manager are you running at the time? I know some
are more picky that others in the .desktop formatting

I cannot launch LibreOffice (any of the programs) either from Desktop and KDE menu shortcut or Shell context menu. Then I tried the command line and got an error:
Code:
$ /usr/pbi/libreoffice-amd64/.sbin/libreoffice
Warning: failed to launch javaldx - java may not fuction correctly

Now I made a fresh install of RC2 and still OpenOffice doesnt start from Kickoff (nothing happens) or if I open a certain document -> error message like posted above

I can rembember I got also a message about java in LibreOffice, but it worked well (except for crashing when going to language options)

I have the same issue with LibreOffice on RC2. Launching "libreoffice --writer" from the terminal reports the "failed to launch javaldx" message, as reported here: http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=27035

LibreOffice works perfectly in PC-BSD's RC1, but I haven't had a chance to look at the difference in the LO FreeBSD port between RC1 and 2 to look for a solution myself. But the weekend's coming up...

Ok I just installed the fresh RC3 (32 Bit) and still same issue but I found a solution:

I looked at /home/user/.local/share/applications/ , went to the openoffice icons' properties, then to program and finally changed the command line. Same for /.kde4/share/applnk/

Now it works when starting from Desktop and the Kicker.
