Question What about java in browsers in 9.0-RC2 ?
I installed 9.0-RC1 (x86), but it is not usable for me as a main system, because no java in Cromium and Firefox. In FreeBSD 9.0-RC2 and RC1 (x64, under Hyper-V) I succsesfully compiled diablo-caffee from ports for openfire, but not found any working PBI with java for pcbsd 9.0. May be, I must compile plugins from ports ?

Isn't there an OpenJDK pbi? Java is pretty heavy so I don't think they would include it in a base cd/dvd.

However most distros I've tried, at least have an OpenJDK package and browser plugin.

It is still RC2, There is plenty of time. I'm sure the Devs will come through in the end.

I've been running RC! and am running rc2 now. I don't recall having to install java or flash. If I'm not mistaken openjdk is part of the package and replaces jre just fine.

I'm trying to access a site that uses Java and it won't work so that means one of two things.

1. There is no Java

2. The Web Browsers aren't using Java. (Because of a lack of plugins perhaps)

I myself am now wondering which one of the two it could be.
Usually the icedtea plugin allows java functions within browsers. I haven't seen the plugin in the appcafe nor have I seen any sign of Java so I am rather confused.

I guess I spoke in haste. I just checked a game site that uses java and found you're correct, it got lost in the upgrade. My apologies.

Yesterday I installed ftp://ftp.pcbsd.org/pub/pbioutgoing/...b23_1-i386.pbi (created 11/28/11 22:42), and then in Chromium and Firefox java-plugin work correctly. At least, the java applet from my bank started

Thanks !

The OpenJDK PBI was approved yesterday. It should appear in the AppCafe sometime today or tomorrow.

Does the OpenJDK pbi come with the Icedtea browser plugin? Or should that be downloaded separately?
