9.0Beta1; Loader hangs when Firewire is present

This is an old, well known problem, I think. When booting I get a "run_interrupt_driven_hooks: still waiting for xpt_config". With PCBSD 8.2 on the very same machine there is no problem.

I quickly found out about Firewire by searching the net, changed soundcards (SB Audigy2 to a cheap something without Firewire) and booted and installed without any problem, so I am quite certain it was the Firewire that did it.

Two other things, the timezone I choose (Stockholm CET) is not set during installation, I correct that using sysinstall (same problem in 8.2) . Sysinstall does not seem to be able to mount the installation-DVD.

Yea, seems there are some issues with firewire in 9 right now, this is
going to be up to the FreeBSD maintainers to get fixed up.

The timezone issue has already been fixed for the next beta. Also
sysinstall won't read our install media, its not the same layout.

Mmmm... I only want this problem will be solved. I have an Hp Compaq 8200 at work, and with the horrible bios shipped with this model, I'm not able to deactivate the firewire. It's the reason I can't have installed PC-BSD instead of Linux... :-/

Couple things to test first. Can you try downloading a copy of FreeBSD 9.0-BETA2, and does it boot properly?


How about PC-BSD 9.0-BETA2? If both of these fail, we can submit a freebsd bug report to get a dev to take a look.
