Default PCBSD9.0 Nvidia Driver not present
I just installed PCBSD9.0-x64-BETA1. During the display detection I noticed that "nvidia" was missing.

I installed the nvidia-driver from ports, and rebooted with the display detection selected. This time "nvidia" appeared, but I was not able to select it as the graphics driver. It did not modify my /etc/x11/xorg.conf from "nv" to "nvidia"

I installed nvidia-xconfig" from ports and ran it as root. It modified my /etc/x11/xorg.conf from "nv" to "nvidia", but when I rebooted x would not start.

I have gone back PCBSD8.2 for now where the Nvidia 260 driver is present and can be upgraded to 270.
I enjoyed being able to install XFCE4.8 WITH PCBSD9.0. It ran pretty snappy even with the witness option enabled.

The "nvidia" driver is available as a meta-pkg during installation, or
via the system manager. Take a look under "Hardware-Drivers" category
during install or in system-manager menu.

Wink PCBSD9.0 Nvidia Driver not present
Also missed that step during installation and installed the driver via the ports. Wizard does not explicitly ask about graphics card. Good to know that the option would be there

Yes... So you do not have to install it all over again...

Go into the PC-BSD Control Panel
Click the System Manager
Then click the tab System Packages
