Default My CPU fan runs non-stop
Hi

PC-BSD is great, but my CPU fan speed stays at full speed.
CPU temp is ~25C - very cool.
My machine is laptop Gateway Intel Centrino Duo.

What should I do (configure/install) to get my fan works normally?

CPU frequency scaling is supported with the 64bit OS but I am not sure that it is supported with the 32bit OS. You can also configure powerd to limit power usage but this may not sort out the fan issue.
Open a console and type
man powerd
to see your options.
Then try as root
powerd min
and see if the fan slows down and you are happy with the performance.
If powerd is still active, install htop
pkg_add -r htop
You can run this program as root in a terminal. Find powerd. Close the program. Then you can start powerd manually.

Perhaps temperature sensors are not available?
Post dmesg output somewhere.

Also take a look into "powerd" and "cpufreq" manpages. On my system those seem to work
fine and the cpu fan turns down / off under light load when the temp is low. Both on amd64 here.

It is OK now

I use this in rc.conf

Quote:
powerd_enable="YES"
powerd_flags="-a maximum -b adaptive -i 85 -r 60 -p 100"
Thanks to all.
