How about 123-BSD? Not only is it easy as 1-2-3, but it's my birthday too (Jan. 23rd).

I think if the project were to branch out with a new name, using anything with "BSD" in it would miss the point. B.S.D. doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. To be fair, I feel the same way about Linux distros which often add "OS" to the end of the name.

If the project is looking for a more novice-friendly title I like the science theme used for the different versions. Something like Critical Mass, Blue Star, Unified come to mind.

I think PC-BSD is a cool name, but to add a name to this thread I think BSD-Evolved or Evolved-BSD would be pretty nifty

PC -> well that is fairly obvious.
BSD -> The one and only, based on the original BSD/Unix NetOS just fo you
( the above just says it ALL )

I think "PCBSD", or is it "PC-BSD" ?, whatever, its only 5 letters and quick to remember, is just fine.
...if you haven't heard of "BSD/Unix" then you probably aren't reading this anyway -LOL.

Consider the existing alternatives, like ... GhostBSD(not much "tangible" there), or Dragonfly (wow, they named it after a "BUG" !), or Midnight (...yawn....)... wtf? those names seemed dug up from somewhere in between StarWars and LoTR ?

I miss "Beastie" the most, and I wish PC?BSD would include different cool wallpapers of "Beastie" -that is the least they could do in appreciation of the great FreeBSD.

To me, the ix-OS with the coolest name and logo is OpenBSD ('da Puffer). "Open" really does say it ALL

I've not even installed it yet, but the PC part haven't sound fine to my ears from the begining. Sounds a bit cheap, yet works. BSD part is a must in my humble opinion: powerful and descriptive.

BSD+
ExtraBSD

?

Default Nixos
I would think NIXOS overall was a good name if you want to go through the effort of diverting energy to marketing a name change.

Thumbs down
I hate the whole concept of re-branding every useless marketing lemme needs to justify his/her job with this insulting concept. One of my top ten personal gripes, most businesses never consider customer loyalty. Perfect example toothpaste every so many years they change the label with whatever trend is in "whitening", "tarter c..","dander control" jk.. blah blah I just want to find toothpaste that works and stick to it and don't want to have to reconsider my options because what I'm used to no longer appears to be on the shelf.

"windows" isn't very catchy either..... but seems to do alright anyway.

Having BSD in the name helps prevent it from being lumped into the huge list of available *NIXis, no confusion is good and the distinction is important. PCBSD is out there en mass on the internet, changing the name would loose some of the coverage.

PCBSD has been around for a while re-branding leads to confusion as far as who is the new guy and why spend the time on him when so many old school / been through the growing pains os's are out there.

A catchy names can be used by pushing the release name in a manner that carries the PCBSD 'brand'. Hubble, Galileo etc sure mix it up all sorts of ways there P-Hubble by PC-BSD. Whatever but big thumbs down to the idea of reinventing PC-BSD. Use the resources making a better product and people will come. Just like they abandoned the windows brand in the server world.

If the product catches on people usually find all kinds of slang to dub there product anyway. ex before my time but, when TV came out it was television now TV, the tube etc. or microwave 'the mike' 'the nuker' etc
