It looks like Amarok 2.3.1 is available in the Ports tree, but it hasn't been updated in the package manager yet. You can get a test build of the new PBI package for Amarok here:

Unfortunately, that test build can't play any music. There is no sound. And if you press the play button enough times, a small error box will popup and say something like "too many errors, aborting...". The sound configuration screen where it is suppose to bring up the "multimedia" settings (the one where you can select the sound backend) is completely blank.

And the GUI theme looks a bit odd, a bit like the default theme you get with Gnome when you are running programs as root with sudo.

I'll try to run it from the console when I get my next chance, to see if there are any hints as to what's going on.

I can confirm this. The PBI in the Software Manager (version 2.2.2) works okay on my system. The PBI in testing (version 2.3.1) does not play audio files and is missing parts of the configuration menu relating to sound.

Since, so far as I know, the PBI module itself hasn't changed, I suspect this is a problem upstream or with the FreeBSD port.

For now I'd recommend using version 2.2.2, which is in PC-BSD's software manager.

Amarok 2.3.2 is available from pbidir right now. It looks like they fixed whatever the problem was when they moved from 2.3.1 to 2.3.2
