Default Changing the KDE Window Manager
I installed the awesome window manager package. I understand kde can run with a different window manager to kwin. I'm not sure how to get awesome going though. Following http://awesome.naquadah.org/wiki/KDE_and_awesome I tried adding:

Code:
~/.kde/env/kdewm.sh:
export KDEWM=awesome
and also

Code:
~/.dmrc:
[Desktop]
Session=awesome
I logged out then tried to log back in, kde said that awesome wasn't a valid Session. What should I do?

Thanks.

Hi

Did you install awesome before ?
You should try to type the absolute path of the executable (maybe /usr/local/bin/awesome) or maybe /usr/jails/portsjail/usr/local/bin/awesome.

awesome is installed via pkg_add in /usr/local/bin/awesome.
Session=/usr/local/bin/awesome gives the same error.

Solved. One find command later I spot a /usr/local/kde4/share/apps/kdm/sessions folder with a lot of .desktop files for different window managers. awesome didn't have one so I added an awesome.desktop file with what I guessed was necessary:

Code:
[Desktop Entry]
Type=XSession
Exec=awesome
TryExec=awesome
Name=Awesome
Together with the .dmrc entry and kdewm.sh it works, for now

It also worked with exporting the KDEWM=awesome from ~/.xprofile without the change to ~/.dmrc and without kdewm.sh. The .desktop file was key.
