Unhappy bug in Firefox 3.6.4 pbi?
I installed the Firefox 3.6.4 pbi, and when I run firefox I get the pcbsd crash handler
I am running pcbsd 8.0:
[gwood@pcbsd ~]$ uname -a
FreeBSD pcbsd 8.0-RELEASE-p2 FreeBSD 8.0-RELEASE-p2 #4: Thu Jan 7 09:20:42 PST 2010 root@build8x32.pcbsd.org:/usr/obj/usr/pcbsd-build80/fbsd-source/8.0-src/sys/PCBSD i386

The content of the crash handler changes if I start firefox in safe mode, but it still crashes. here are the saved crashhandler files from 3 runs:

[gwood@pcbsd ~]$ cat firefox-3.6.4.err
Output logged from stdout
=========================

[gwood@pcbsd ~]$ cat firefox-3.6.4-b.err

Default bug in Firefox 3.6.4 pbi?
Can you check .mozilla/plugins for a libmoon* file? If you remove that file does Firefox work?

Default libmoon band firefox 3.6.4 error
don't see any libmoon stuff in .mozilla, but there is some in /Programs/Firefox3.6.4:

[gwood@pcbsd ~]ls .mozilla/plugins
npwrapper.libflashplayer.so
[gwood@pcbsd ~]$
[gwood@pcbsd ~]$ find /Programs/Firefox3.6.4/ | grep -i libmoon
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/libmoon.la
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/libmoon.so
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/libmoon.so.0
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/moonlight/plugin/libmoonloader.la
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/moonlight/plugin/libmoonloader.so
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/moonlight/plugin/libmoonplugin-ff3bridge.la
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/moonlight/plugin/libmoonplugin-ff3bridge.so
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/moonlight/plugin/libmoonplugin.la
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/moonlight/plugin/libmoonplugin.so
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/browser_plugins/symlinks/gecko19/libmoonloader.so
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/browser_plugins/symlinks/gecko19/libmoonplugin.so
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/browser_plugins/symlinks/gecko19/libmoonplugin-ff3bridge.so

should I remove all of these libmoon thingies?

by the way, is it normal for a pbi Program to include the version number like

/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/

or does that indicate a bad install?

George

BTW, I don't recall installing any plugins with 'moon' in their names, either this time or in previous firefox installations in pcbsd or otherwise.

The libmoon plugin is included with the PBI, and it provides support for SilverLight 1.x stuff. I'm guessing its incompatiable with firefox 3.5.4 for some reason. I'll have to get a build of it soon without the plugin for testing. I'll let you know when its ready

Question remove libmoon stuff?
in the meanwhile, do you think it is safe to just remove all the libmoon stuff,
namely:

Code:
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/libmoon.la
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/libmoon.so
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/libmoon.so.0
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/moonlight/plugin/libmoonloader.la
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/moonlight/plugin/libmoonloader.so
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/moonlight/plugin/libmoonplugin-ff3bridge.la
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/moonlight/plugin/libmoonplugin-ff3bridge.so
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/moonlight/plugin/libmoonplugin.la
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/moonlight/plugin/libmoonplugin.so
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/browser_plugins/symlinks/gecko19/libmoonloader.so
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/browser_plugins/symlinks/gecko19/libmoonplugin.so
/Programs/Firefox3.6.4/lib/browser_plugins/symlinks/gecko19/libmoonplugin-ff3bridge.so

Don't delete them, rename them.

Default remove libmoon stuff?
Go ahead and remove those files and see if it fixes the issue, it can't
make it any more broken anyway

I should have the PBI made without them in the next couple of days,
we're doing some maintenance on our build servers right now.

Default moving moonlight (silverlight)foo.
with a fresh reinstall of firefox 3.6.4 I moved the silverlight foo (details below) before staring Firefox. it worked, with two error messages which seemed harmless:

Code:
[gwood@pcbsd /Programs/Firefox3.6.4]$ kdeinit4: preparing to launch /Programs/bin/firefox3.sh
:1: error: unexpected character `\22', expected keyword - e.g. `style'
:1: error: unexpected character `\22', expected keyword - e.g. `style'
these messages suggest that there is a control-R (octal 22) in a config file but I couldn't find it.

Here are the moonlight files I moved, and how I did it.

Code:
[gwood@pcbsd /Programs/Firefox3.6.4]$ for i in ./lib/browser_plugins/symlinks/gecko19/libmoon* ; do sudo mv -v $i $i-BAD; done
./lib/browser_plugins/symlinks/gecko19/libmoonloader.so -> ./lib/browser_plugins/symlinks/gecko19/libmoonloader.so-BAD
./lib/browser_plugins/symlinks/gecko19/libmoonplugin-ff3bridge.so -> ./lib/browser_plugins/symlinks/gecko19/libmoonplugin-ff3bridge.so-BAD
./lib/browser_plugins/symlinks/gecko19/libmoonplugin.so -> ./lib/browser_plugins/symlinks/gecko19/libmoonplugin.so-BAD

[gwood@pcbsd /Programs/Firefox3.6.4]$ find . | egrep -i '(plug.*moon)|(moon.*plug)'|less
./lib/browser_plugins/symlinks/gecko19/libmoonplugin.so-BAD
./lib/browser_plugins/symlinks/gecko19/libmoonloader.so-BAD
./lib/browser_plugins/symlinks/gecko19/libmoonplugin-ff3bridge.so-BAD
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/System.Core.dll
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/System.Core.dll.mdb
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/System.Net.dll
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/System.Net.dll.mdb
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/System.Runtime.Serialization.dll

./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/System.ServiceModel.Web.dll.mdb
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/System.ServiceModel.dll
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/System.ServiceModel.dll.mdb
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/System.Windows.Browser.dll
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/System.Windows.Browser.dll.mdb
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/System.Windows.dll
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/System.Windows.dll.config
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/System.Windows.dll.mdb
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/System.Xml.dll
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/System.Xml.dll.mdb
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/System.dll
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/System.dll.mdb
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/libmoonloader.la
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/libmoonloader.so
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/libmoonplugin-ff3bridge.la
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/libmoonplugin-ff3bridge.so
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/libmoonplugin.la
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/libmoonplugin.so
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/mscorlib.dll
./bad-autolibs/moonlight/plugin/mscorlib.dll.mdb
Bottom line; firefox 3.6.4 pbi works (pcbsd 8.0) after moving the moonlight plugin foo.
