Default 3 problems I have with PC-BSD
Hi, here are the 3 problems I have with PC BSD
I use KDE 3.5

-I can't install my language (FR) , The region is OK (France) but the only language that is available in the menu is US English :/

-I don't have the battery status applet in my K bar in the bottom of the screen (I have a laptop)

-I don't have the internet connection (wifi spot near me etc..) applet in my K bar in the bottom of the screen

thanks
Hardisk

if you use KDE3.5 you're using an older version of PCBSD, you may want to check the new one.

as for the problems though:
1. PCBSD doesn't support French yet, it's translated for 93% so it can't be used yet.
2. I've used it on my laptop and I did see that applet, so I guess that may be because you may have a older version.
3. makes sense, PCBSD doesn't contain Knetmanage....

O btw, the 'k bar' is called a panel.

Did you install PC-BSD 8.0 then install KDE 3.5 from ports? If so,
you'll probably need to install the i18n packages to get French language
support.

As for the others, not sure what else to tell you. Its been a while
since I looked at KDE 3.x, might need to install ports for some
additional apps.

I have the latest PC BSD version :

FreeBSD pcbsd-2101 8.0-RELEASE-p2 FreeBSD 8.0-RELEASE-p2 #10: Thu Jan 7 14:50:53 EST 2010 root@build8x64.pcbsd.org:/usr/obj/usr/pcbsd-build80/fbsd-source/8.0-src/sys/PCBSD amd64

and Installed KDE 3.5 with the PBI.

-French is 93% translated? How can I contribute to it/can I install the 93% already made?

And ... how do I install a package? ^^" i'm only familiar with apt-get and dpkg

those are both only for linux, or, only for debian and debian based systems.
PBI's are PCBSD's packages, you can find them from the installer of via pbidir.com
else you need to install from ports.
but I'm not sure how to explain how clearly, but if you google for "installing freebsd packages" you should find the needed information, installing them works the same for PCBSD as for FreeBSD.

to translate you can go here: http://pootle2.pcbsd.org/
you do need to make an account though.
you can't install it yet, since it would have to be included on the install disk, if you finish translating it will be on the fist new disk afther your done.

you sould be able to install franch for KDE though, but that would be only for KDE, so programs that are specific to PCBSD would stay english then.
you will need the i18n package for that, which you'll have to get from the ports.
