Skype PBI won't install!

Hi people,

Fresh install of 7.1.1 on some computer. I updated it almost completely (except the Nvidia driver update, since this is an older card and it needs an older driver, already included in the install kit) and then tried to install Skype from pbidir.com

Nothing. Literally, nothing. Step by step:

Right clicked on the Skype PBI. Selected "open with installer" or whatever that option is called. It asked for the root password, as it should do. And after providing it, nothing!

Am I forced to upgrade to 8.0 ?!

Hm...So the PBI script didn't work? Are you sure you download the correct PBI? 32bit or 64bit?

Could you confirm this via CLI? Open terminal

1/ cd to pbi path
1/ chmod 777 <pbi-name.pbi>
3/ ./<pbi-name.pbi> -text -accept
4/ enter root password

Paste the content of what followed here.

Or you can just install it from port collection,
and then you will find a shortcut to skype on your menu.

Weird...I thought PBIs solve dependency hell!

It outputs

/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object "libz.so.5" not found, required by "PBItext"

EDIT: Oh, and the PBI is 32-bit, Skype2.0.0.72-PV0.pbi

From ports?

You know how?

from ports terminal.

cd /usr/ports/net/skype
make
make install clean

Also there is /usr/ports/net/skype12

It should install all dependencies.

Um...sorry to ruin it, but I reinstalled the whole OS. Yeah, since I come from Windows...I'm used to that.

Works fine now. Thank you for worrying. I now also know how to solve dependencies. For example, I wanted some sort of CPU-Z for it, and got Perl...something. Managed to install it but for the GUI version you need GTK 2.0 or something.

So I could give it a shot at finding that software on the hard drive, going to the folder and saying "make clean" ? Should be worth a try.
