HOWTO downgrade to KDE3 or Gnome2 from KDE4

Actually I am looking for help how to do it right way.
Are there any drawbacks?

If you want to use KDE3 then download FreeBSD 7.2. Install base system with KDE3.

The problem KDE4 works on any platform as Vista or Windows 7 - clumsily and leisurely.
I see these problem in because of conceptual way this KDE4 was designed.
Not everyone use TV set to play games or watch internet channles - that was desktop in KDDE4 was designed.
Very unprofessional way - I mean in marketing....
Anyway thank you, I will try seventh defenitly, ony one question , can I upgrade or recompile after - when eighth stable version come in reality - kernel like as in Linux?

Yeah, there are numerous gripes about KDE4. Most of it will say "oh it is slow, it crashes often, it is too flashy, etc..." Personally, if it doesn't work, I get rid of it.

Currently I'm running PCBSD 7.1.1. The KDE4 is zippy. I have no complaints...except one, but it's minor and a few commands from shell takes care of it.

Last I check, there is an option to upgrade to 8.0. Recompiling kernel is usually discouraged unless you really know what you're doing. PCBSD kernel is a custom kernel so you will need to know all the knobs and switches. This of course is found by digging through PCBSD and the source repository.

I converted to kde3 on my laptop. What a difference - much faster for everything.

My procedure was to completely upgrade using csup & portmaster, then install kde3 from ports, then replace the pbi programs with ports.

For me, PCBSD was a great introduction to BSD, but kde4 is far too bloated and slow, plus I had continual problems with sound. My kde3 is lean and mean, and sound is finally working properly.
