Default Why is PC-BSD so large?
Anyone know why PC_BSD is as large as OSX while other KDE distros like Fedora and Kubuntu are around 600 megs. Thanks.

I think it is because PBI stuff. When you use PBIs, programs do not use shared libraries. Instead, they use ones which came with PBI. So lot of libraries get duplicated.

That is just my theory, I am pretty new to BSD so I do not know for sure.

But... what do you mean by saying "as big as OS X"? OS X comes on DL DVD and is about 6.5Gb. PC-BSD comes on single layer DVD, and I think that 8.0-Beta weights about 3.3Gb

Size is a good thing.

While one shouldn't install the whole kitchen sink on a PC, it is better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it on the installation media.

It sure beats having to run around the internet looking for the latest obscure RPM file so that some normal thing works.

... of course the less serious answer is just "well that's what she said !!" 8)
