how to use media card reader, cd drive
I installed pcbsd 7.1.1 last night. The hard drive works, and I can use a usb flash drive. How can I get pcbsd to recognize an sd card when I put it in the reader, or a cd or dvd? A while back I had 7.1 and it had the same problem. It will recognize a cd with an operating system on it, but not an audio cd or any dvd. I've tried opening the media players and they could not find anything either. What's wrong?

Re: how to use media card reader, cd drive
I have this problem with my SD card. I think it has something to do with the formatting. If you format it with a Windows machine, it might be recognized. PC-BSD doesn't have a formatting tool that I'm aware of. I think there's one for floppies, though...

Re: how to use media card reader, cd drive
the next release of FreeBSD 8.0 will correct the problems of recognition format.
Must just be patient ...

Nonsense! SD is just SCSI hard drive. Learn how to use fdisk, disclabel,
and newfs commands.

Re: how to use media card reader, cd drive
@OKO: Well, I need FAT 16 for my Wii. Maybe 32... I'll need to check. Do you know of any *BSD utilities which could do this?

Did you read my post? Man fdisk, disclabel, and newfs. Newfs command
can create various file systems among others FAT 16 and FAT 32.

Re: how to use media card reader, cd drive
I read the manpage for newfs but I couldn't see anything referring to FAT 16/32. I'll keep searching, though.

Re: how to use media card reader, cd drive
Sometimes an empty label or a funky label (non ASCII) can give trouble mounting.
