Error mounting install image!!!
I have been using FreeBSD for about 6 months now as my primary workstation. I decided to check out PC-BSD to investigate the bells & whistles. I downloaded the DVD iso and tried to install but the install bombs out indicating an error mounting the install image. I looked around and see that there are some threads indicating the problem might be that FreeBSD does not support the DVD/CD drive. However, that seems unlikely in my case since I installed FreeBSD with no problems and never had to do anything special to use my DVD/CD.
Nevertheless, I booted into single user mode and did a;
# ls /dev/*cd*
I have acd0 and cd0…
I tried mounting both unsuccessfully. acd0 was the device name under FreeBSD as well. What am I missing? Is my only option to install from a flash drive?
Here is a snippet;

Have you verified your downloaded iso image with md5 first? Also I'd recommend to burn your verified iso to RW media- they are tend to be much higher quality that write once discs.

Re: Error mounting install image!!!
Thanks for the tip. I re-burned the DVD at a slower rate and it worked fine. Completed the install process.

Re: Error mounting install image!!!
Hi. I'm having the same problem getting the DVD mounted. Can't past the
install process.
Now, the difference with me is that I've purchased a shrink wrapped
DVD for PC-BSD from freebsdmall.com. This is PC-BSD version 7.0 (fibonacci edition.)
I've tried installing FreeBSD 7.0, that I also purchased from the same place, and
that worked fine, got to sysinstall and everything.
Any pointers on what to do here so that I can get PC-BSD to install. ?
Your response is greatly appreciated.

It is still not working...

by the way, I installed it on a virtual machine with the iso file, and worked perfect...

Re: Error mounting install image!!!
Rewritable, huh? That might be the problem. I've had problems with booting rewritables that were not closed sessions. Try a standard DVD-R and run a md5 sum (in a terminal, type md5 /path/to/file.iso) on your image. If that fails, you may need to download an image using gotbsd.net.

Re: Error mounting install image!!!
You can check the MD5 sum with the command md5 in Linux using a terminal with the command md5sum /path/to/file.iso Sorry about that. There's a program to check on Windows, but I don't know what that is... Downloading from gotbsd.net should download a complete image for you if your MD5 sum doesn't check out with PC-BSD's download page.
I've heard a few cases of people taking their hard drives out, installing the drives in other computers and just installing from there. I've installed PC-BSD on multiple machines without problems, so I don't have much experience with boot failure. I think I had one bad image, though. Good luck.

Re: Error mounting install image!!!
winmd5sum is a decent program for checking md5 checksums against files (like iso) under Windows systems. I've used it for years along side FreeBSDs md5 utility.
