10 things to do after installation?

There's this nice page for ubuntu that lists 10 things to do after installation:

How many of these (or rather, bsd-analogues of these) are part of the base install for pcbsd, and what should we do instead?

In brief, the ubuntu list is:

1. Add the Medibuntu Repository
Medibutu stands for Multimedia, Entertainment & Distractions In Ubuntu and is a repository of packages that cannot be included in Ubuntu due to legal reasons. We need to add this repository to enable MP3, DVD playback, install certain codecs etc.

2. Enable Playback of Encrypted DVDs

3. Playing MP3, WMA, Real and Apple QuickTime Files (install codecs)

4. Install Skype

5. Install Adobe Acrobat Reader

6. Install Google Earth

7. Install VLC Player

8. Installing OpenOffice 3.0

9. Install Flash Plugin for Firefox

10. Install Google Picasa

I will pitch in here with my thoughts. I have used ubuntu before, and I've been using pcbsd for just over a month now. So while not an expert, here goes....

1. Add the Medibuntu Repository
Not applicable, but I would replace with, install the ports tree.

2. Enable Playback of Encrypted DVDs
Not sure about this one, because I haven't played any as of yet.

3. Playing MP3, WMA, Real and Apple QuickTime Files (install codecs)
VLC has almost every codec necessary. So if you install the VLC pbi at install, your g2g

4. Install Skype
This can be done via pbi, but one thing to note here. The permissions were hosed after I completed this install (the pbi was corrupt and I had to install via ports). So to fix I did a chmod 777 on the binary.

5. Install Adobe Acrobat Reader
I installed pdfedit from ports as I did not see another alternative (at least for editing pdfs). But you can view pdfs out of the box.

6. Install Google Earth
via pbi

7. Install VLC Player
Done at install with pbi.

8. Installing OpenOffice 3.0
Done at install with pbi.

9. Install Flash Plugin for Firefox
Done at install.

10. Install Google Picasa
Not available on freebsd or pcbsd, so no ports or pbi. Instead I would say replace this with Gwenview via pbi. I attempted the ports install first and hosed it up. They gave me too many options to choose from in the install prompts and I chose to install the wrong version of some library or another. I don't know how to fix this other than start over.

5. If you are like that sort of garbage -- better to use something like evince or okular

7. VLC works fine; I prefer MPlayer

8. Use a PBI or pkg, compiling OO.o is horrible!

9. PC-BSD has flashcrap
