Default High Interrupt Rate and CPU Usage
After clean install of PC-BSD 7.1 (UFS + Journaling) and connecting to WiFi router I got these usage stats at idle:

Code:
last pid: 28314; load averages: 0.23, 0.29, 0.32 up 0+00:26:39 23:30:54
129 processes: 1 running, 128 sleeping
CPU 0: 0.9% user, 0.1% nice, 3.2% system, 40.5% interrupt, 55.3% idle
CPU 1: 0.8% user, 0.0% nice, 17.1% system, 0.0% interrupt, 82.1% idle
Mem: 244M Active, 334M Inact, 204M Wired, 32M Cache, 112M Buf, 1173M Free
Swap: 496M Total, 496M Free
kill edit
PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND
 2496 root 1 50 0 3640K 1588K select 0 1:35 8.79% hald-addon-storage
 2997 vermaden 1 47 0 77676K 38088K select 0 1:26 4.49% kded4
 2874 root 1 44 0 321M 313M select 1 0:33 0.00% Xorg
40% interrupt rate and 13% idle CPU usage is imho too much, especially for hald.

My hardware is Dell Latitude D630:

Code:
cpu: Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 2.0GHz
ram: 2GB
hdd: 80GB
gfx: Intel X3100
nic: Broadcom 10/100/1000
scr: 14.1" WXGA+ (1440x900)
snd: Sigmatel
wir: Intel 3945 WIFI

I did not had ANY problems using Intel X3100 on FreeBSD 7.1-STABLE some time ago, also if I do not connect by WiFi, then interrupt rate is pretty normal, about 0.1% of total system stats, but kde4 still hogs CPU.

@koo5

Currently I indeed has problems with (very) high interrupt rate on X3100:
Code:
# vmstat -i
interrupt total rate
irq1: atkbd0 22515 4
irq9: acpi0 1 0
irq12: psm0 27390 5
irq16: drm0 819136294 156293
irq17: wpi0 4151 0
irq18: atapci1 31780 6
irq19: cbb0+ 2 0
irq20: uhci0 uhci+ 1 0
irq21: hdac0 uhci+ 6977 1
irq22: ehci0 uhci4 25 0
cpu0: timer 10480037 1999
irq256: bge0 18412 3
cpu1: timer 10470231 1997
Total 840197816 160312
Maybe because of newer Xorg/Intel driver version, I must verify that on FreeBSD without all PCBSD bloat called KDE4.

Any updates sir?

I have an X4500 that is terrible with intel-3d enable, intel and even VESA drivers. Right now the CPU usage is at 60% with VESA drivers and uhci2 is causing the most interrupts but I don't think that is the cause. (maybe though??).

Regards,
Brodey

Hi,

I havent tried PCBSD/FreeBSD from that time, I recently got more into OpenSolaris and/or NetBSD. X4500 is pretty new (as for BSD standarts), so its support is not so good at this point, IMHO you should report BUGS to http://www.freebsd.org/send-pr.html and contact FreeBSD developers at http://lists.freebsd.org for some patches to try.
