Default Okular- How do I change default page size from A4 to Letter
How do I change the default page size in Okular. The default is always A4. I want letter.

I've been able to change the page size manually using the "Properties" box in the print pop-up window. I'd like to make it the default, but I cannot find a configuration file to make the adjustment.

The Okular manual does not cover this, and I searched KDE.org and the web without any luck.

I haven't really used okular very much, so if anyone else is more knowledgeable please feel free to correct me or give a better suggestion. The only thing that I can think of is to click View >> Page Size to change the viewing size. But that only works if the document supports different page sizes.
Outside of that suggestion, I can't really think of anything else. Maybe try viewing the file with a different program? Sorry I could be more helpful.

Thanks. On the several documents I tried, my "Page Size" button remained grayed out, meaning that command was not available.

The Okular Help says that Page Size "Changes the size of the pages of the document.
Note -- This submenu is active only if the current type of document supports different page sizes."

So, if I find a document that supports changing page sizes, I can try it.

I am hoping that there is an editable configuration file that lets me set the default page size.

U.S. is letter unlike the rest of the world which uses A4. The solution
is very simple. You can use psresize (man psresize) which is a part of
psutils to change the size of PostScript files including printing multiple
virtual pages to a single physical page. The document has to be in PostScript before printing anyway. If your document is pdf just use pdf2ps to convert to post script.

Speaking of Okular, I am stuck with Xpdf for the past 15 years.

I've noticed that printer settings such as paper size, headers, footers, margins, etc..., do not save, they revert back to the previous settings after every print. I haven't found a solution yet.

There seems to be some traffic about this problem on the Okular-devel mailing list. As I read the reports, the problem seems to be identified as a Qt problem and is said to be fixed for forthcoming Qt 4.5.0, but apparently cannot be fixed for users of KDE versions 4.1.x or 4.2.

Here is a sampling of the reports:

1. Okular-devel Bug # 174354 (Okular defaults to A4 paper, even though 'US Letter' is specified in settings), but it seems that the maintainer attributed the fault to the print dialog provided by Qt, concluding that KDE has almost no control over it.

See: http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/okular-de ... 02025.html and the follow-up reply.

2. Okular-devl Bug # 180280 (Okular Default Paper Size is A4 - Cannot override)
Quote:
"When trying to print a PDF file, printer settings for Okular are "stuck" at A4. ... I did find the method to change the print size for a individual file when requesting to print, however even though I am able to change to US Letter size, when the file is printed, the instructions to the printer are A4, e.g. I get a message on the printer to load A4 paper."
See: http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/okular-de ... 02621.html and following.

In the last of the follow-ups to the immediately previous link, the following comment was found:
Quote:
--- Comment #5 from John Layt <john layt net> 2009-01-13 20:08:40 ---
Now fixed upstream for forthcoming Qt 4.5.0, but also bypassed in forthcoming KDE 4.2 and KDE 4.1.4 releases.
See: http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/okular-de ... 02678.html

3. Okular-devl Bug # 185296 (Okular defaults to A4 and you cannot change the paper type)
Quote:
Okular ignores the print settings you specify and ignores the cups settings. It
prints to A4 paper no matter what. It also doesn't print double sided. You can
specify whatever you want - it's printing single-sided A4.

------- Comment #13 From Pino Toscano 2009-02-23 19:18:58 -------

Please STOP the flood, this is of no help.

There are three issues mixed in this bug report:

a) the default paper size does not respect the KDE settings
-> Qt problem, as Qt does not read KDE configuration about it

b) you choose some paper size in the printing dialog, and instead something
A4-sized is sent to the printer
-> this is mostly likely an Okular problem, and I would like to hear more
about it

c) duplex printing is not working
-> this is a *different* issue, and called bug #175276

But please, *STOP* the flood and just reply to what is your case.
So . . .
